Short n' Sweet 'Confessions': Madonna joins Sabrina Carpenter at Coachella

The rumors were true: Madonna was Sabrina Carpenter's surprise guest Friday night at Coachella.

The Queen of Pop appeared during "Juno," and teamed with Sabrina for duets of "Vogue" and "Like a Prayer." The two also performed a new song, possibly called "Bring Your Love," which is likely from Madonna's upcoming album Confessions II, a sequel to her 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor.

Madonna also noted the significance of the moment, since it marked her return to Coachella after two decades. "20 years ago today I performed at Coachella -- I was in the dance tent and it was the first time I performed Confessions on a Dance Floor in America. And that was such a thrill for me, so you can image what a thrill [this] is for me. ... Same boots, with the same corset ... so it’s like a full circle moment, y'know?"

Madonna joked, "The other thrilling thing I want to point out is that this is probably the only time I've ever performed with someone that's shorter than me!"

A few hours after the performance, Madonna released the first song from Confessions II, "I Feel So Free." The album's out July 3.

Geena Davis, Madonna's co-star in A League of Their Own, also appeared during the set in a pre-filmed segment, doing a monologue as an older version of Sabrina. Geena's Thelma & Louise co-star Susan Sarandon had done the same thing during Sabrina's first Coachella performance on April 10.

You can watch the whole performance on Coachella's YouTube channel.

Music notes: Taylor Swift, Olivia Dean and more

Another day, another chart record set by Taylor Swift. This time, it's Billboard's Adult Pop Airplay chart, which has been around since 1996. She currently has, not one, not two, but three songs in the chart's top 10, which no other artist has ever done. Here's the rundown: "Elizabeth Taylor" is at #10, "Opalite" is #8 and "The Fate of Ophelia" is #9.

Olivia Dean's song "Man I Need" has officially passed one billion streams on Spotify, giving her her first entry into the Billions Club. On her Instagram Story, she wrote, "this is wild. thank u for listening." Olivia is the female artist with the biggest increase in global streams on Spotify over the past year. Meanwhile, her album The Art of Loving is back at #1 on the U.K. album chart.

You may want to tune in to the Coachella live YouTube stream Friday night at 9 p.m. PT to watch Sabrina Carpenter's set: It's rumored that none other than Madonna will join her onstage. Madonna just revealed that she's got a new album, Confessions II, coming out July 3.

Olivia Rodrigo confirms she dropped a 'drop dead' Easter egg at last year's Glastonbury show

Olivia Rodrigo performs on the Pyramid stage during Glastonbury festival 2025 at Worthy Farm, Pilton on June 29, 2025 in Glastonbury, England (Samir Hussein/WireImage)

We didn't know it then, but when Olivia Rodrigo played the U.K.'s Glastonbury Festival in June of 2025, she'd already written her new single "drop dead."  Now, she's confirmed that what she wore during part of that set was a deliberate reference to the song

At Glastonbury, Olivia performed a couple of songs with The Cure's Robert Smith, including their hit "Just Like Heaven." Then, during the encore, she wore a t-shirt that said, "You Know All The Words to 'Just Like Heaven'" -- to which Robert Smith had added, in Sharpie, "But do you?"

Of course, that seemed completely normal at the time -- she'd just performed the song, right? But when "drop dead" arrived today, we all found out that "You know all the words to 'Just Like Heaven'" is actually a lyric in the song.

"I knew that this song was coming out and I wanted to, like, do a little Easter egg," Olivia tells Apple Music's Zane Lowe.

Asked if she played the song for Robert Smith, Olivia says, "Oh my God, I actually don't know if I played it for him. ... I played him a bunch of other songs on the album, I don't know why I didn't think to play this one for him though, I should."

As for the overall theme of "drop dead," Olivia tells Zane, "It's about a first date, and so it just feels like a new beginning and it's just trying to capture all those feelings of meeting someone that you have feelings for, and just being, like, nervous and, like, kind of insecure, but super-excited and just lovesick over this person."

Olivia's new album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is out June 12.

(L-R) Gwen Stefani, Adrian Young, Tony Kanal, and Tom Dumont of No Doubt attend the FIREAID Benefit Concert for California Fire Relief at The Kia Forum on January 30, 2025 in Inglewood, California. (Photo by John Shearer/Getty Images for FIREAID)

No Doubt is getting ready for their residency at the Sphere Las Vegas, and they’re giving fans some insight into how they feel about some of their songs.

The band posted a video on social media in which they pit some of their biggest hits against each other. Standing in a straight line, two songs appear above their heads and the members move to the left or right depending on which song is their favorite.

The first round is “Don’t Speak” vs. “Just a Girl,” with Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal choosing "Don’t Speak,” and Tom Dumont and Adrian Young picking “Just a Girl.” In the round two battle of “Hella Good” vs. “It’s My Life,” again Gwen and Tony agree, picking the latter tune, with Adrian and Tom picking the former.

When it comes to “Spider Web” only one person, Gwen, picks it as their favorite over “Sunday Morning,” while the entire band chooses "Bathwater” over "Ex Girlfriend.”

They captioned the clip, “We learned a lot about ourselves doing this one. See you in two weeks @spherevegas."

No Doubt’s Sphere Las Vegas residency kicks off May 6 and wraps June 13. A complete list of dates can be found at NoDoubt.com.

Watch Tyla and Zara Larsson steam up the screen in video for 'She Did It Again'

Tyla and Zara Larsson in 'She Did It Again' video (Setor Tsikudo)

Fans are saying it's giving Rihanna and Shakira, or maybe Beyoncé or Shakira. Either way, Tyla and Zara Larsson are an instantly iconic duo in their new video for "She Did It Again."

Following the success of "Stateside," Zara continues her streak of joining women from a different country for a sexy bop by teaming with the Grammy-winning South African star for the sultry track about toying with a man's emotions. In it, Zara sings, "Put him in on his knees, not tryna tease/ Oops, did it again like Britney, that's how it is." Zara's a big fan of Britney's, covering Britney's "Gimme More" on her current tour.

In the steamy video, both women are wearing a series of very skimpy outfits as they shimmy, shake and dance up on each other. At the end of the video, they're grinding on each other so enthusiastically that they both start laughing.

"Thank you my girl @tyla for having me on this songgggg I love it and I love you!!!!" Zara wrote on Instagram.

Lainey writes on Instagram, "If I go back and tell myself one thing it’d be…'Hey younger you, you’re gonna impersonate Hannah Montana all throughout high school, playing every birthday party, fair and festival between here and Louisiana and then one day…. you’re gonna have a song with the real Hannah Montana.'”

"@mileycyrus thank you for asking me to join you on this special song," she adds. "If this ain’t a full circle moment, I don’t know what is."

The post included photos and video of Lainey and Miley together in recent years.

Lainey impersonated Hannah at parties and events from the time she was in eighth grade through 12th grade. She tells People in an Instagram video, "It taught me that this wasn't gonna be easy, but it was gonna be fun."

Sombr spends a night at the museum in video for new song 'Potential'

Sombr (Bryce Glenn)

Ballerinas and burglary figure into the video for sombr's new sing 'Potential' -- with some dinosaurs thrown in for good measure.

In the song, sombr mourns a former relationship, singing, "We had potential/ Makes me mental/ Not having you." He also sings the very self-aware line, "It was a difficult breakup/ but I wrote some songs that got me famous."

In the video, sombr, his girlfriend and a pal are a crew of burglars: We see them robbing a convenience store and a jewelry store and generally having a great time. That's intercut with footage of a ballerina and her male partner dancing in the rotunda of a natural history museum, where the bones of a dinosaur are displayed.

Sombr and the girl eventually break into the natural history museum while the friend waits outside. It seems romantic as they walk around looking at the exhibits, until sombr trips an alarm while looking at an artifact and the police catch him and cuff him. As they take him away, he thinks of the girl, and we see the artifact he was looking at: a rock with a male and female figure painted on it, called "The Lovers."

Sombr debuted "Potential" at Coachella last weekend. He'll perform there again on April 18.

Olivia Rodrigo is literally an 'angel on the walls of Versailles' in 'drop dead' video

Olivia Rodrigo, 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love' (Geffen Records)

In Olivia Rodrigo's new song "drop dead," she sings about a guy who looks like "an angel on the walls of Versailles" -- the opulent palace built by King Louis XIV of France. So of course, she had to go to Versailles to film the video.

"I love this song so much!!! it’s the first chapter in the story of ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ and it makes me wanna skip around and roll the windows down and make out," Olivia wrote on Instagram.

"I was lucky enough to film the music video at the palace of Versailles a few months ago with the wonderful [director] @petrafcollins and I’m so stoked with how it turned out. I hope you guys love it as much as I do xoxoxoxo."

Despite the song's title, it's not a kiss-off to a guy Olivia hates: It's about the crazy rush of falling in love with a guy who's "so so pretty" that if he kisses her, she "might drop dead." The video starts with Olivia in a bar, and then suddenly, she's running through the halls of Versailles wearing a babydoll dress, white knee-high socks and retro pink foam Walkman-style headphones.

The song also features a shout out to The Cure, whose lead singer, Robert Smith, Liv sang with at the Glastonbury Festival. One of the songs they sang was The Cure's classic "Just Like Heaven," and in "drop dead," Liv sings, "You know all the words to 'Just Like Heaven'/ and I know why he wrote them/ now that you're standing right here."

"drop dead" is the first single from Olivia's new album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, which is due June 12.

Sara Bareilles, 'Good Grief' still (Courtesy of Tribeca Festival)

A documentary about the making of Sara Bareilles' new album will premiere in June at New York's Tribeca Festival, where Sara, herself, will also perform.

The film, Good Grief, is about the creation of Sara's first album since 2019's Amidst the Chaos. She reflects on the recording process in a post shared to Instagram. "Almost one year ago I walked into a beautiful church in upstate NY and began recording my new album with some of my closest friends and collaborators," Sara writes. "The past 5 years for me personally have been full of some profound grief and loss AND the extraordinary gifts and perspective those hard lessons bring."

She continues, "I feel both vulnerable in, and proud of the film he made. I am honored that the first place this film will be seen will be in the city I love so much and call home. ... I sincerely hope you will join us and share in some Good Grief."

The film premieres at New York's Beacon Theatre on June 4, followed by a performance from Sara; tickets go on sale April 28.

Sara won't be the only pop star at the festival: Alicia Keys is set to make an appearance after the June 13 premiere of her film, Alicia Keys: Girl From Hell’s Kitchen. Other artists who'll perform alongside the debuts of documentaries about their lives are Earth, Wind & Fire, Mumford & Sons and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Peter Frampton.

Lady Gaga's Mayhem Ball is officially her biggest tour ever

Lady Gaga, The Mayhem Ball (Courtesy Live Nation)

Now that Lady Gaga's Mayhem Ball has officially wrapped up, all the numbers can be crunched — and they show that this was the biggest tour of her career.

Billboard reports that the tour grossed $419.5 million, blowing away all of Gaga's previous treks. None of those ever broke the $200 million mark, let alone $300 million or $400 million. In addition, the Mayhem Ball is now one of the top-10 highest-grossing tours by a female artist ever and one of the top-10 highest-grossing pop music tours ever.

But it's not just about the money, it's about the fans Gaga played for. If you count the 2025 warmup shows she performed in Mexico and Singapore; the two weekends she headlined at Coachella last year; the record-breaking free concert she did last May on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and the 2 million tickets she sold for the tour proper, she's entertained more 4.5 million fans in the past 12 months.

And perhaps most impressively, the Mayhem Ball's gross now brings Gaga's career haul on the road — starting with a club tour in 2009 — to over $1.1 billion. She's just the sixth woman to gross $1 billion on the road, following Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Madonna, Pink and Taylor Swift.

Charli XCX says she’s making a rock album next

If you were hoping Charli XCX’s next album would be Brat 2.0, you might be out of luck.

The singer tells British Vogue in a new cover story that her next offering will be a rock album.

One of the new songs on the currently unfinished record puts it bluntly, according to the magazine, with the lyrics: “I think the dance floor is dead/ so now we’re making rock music.”

After the success of Brat, Charli says making another dance-leaning album “would have felt really hard, really sad.” Instead she’s taking on the rock genre, but doing it her way — bending “the possibilities of what my perspective on that could be.”

“For me, it’s fun to flip the form,” she says. “We know there’s gonna be people who are bothered by it, but that’s fine.”

Charli’s last album was Wuthering Heights, released in February, which served as the soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s film of the same name.

Watch Ariana Grande play an 'emotional puppeteer' in 'Focker-In-Law' trailer

'Focker-In-Law' poster (Universal Pictures)

In the new trailer for Focker-In-Law, the latest installment in the Meet the Parents movie franchise, Ariana Grande has one mission: to stop Ben Stiller's Greg Focker from holding her fiancé, Henry — Greg's son — "emotionally hostage."

In the trailer, Ariana's character, Olivia Jones, tells the family that she was trained as an FBI hostage negotiator and plans to use her skills to "free" Henry from his co-dependent relationship with Greg. Much to Greg's dismay, she's got Robert De Niro's Jack Byrnes on her side. The two get along great — even Jack's dog loves her, and Greg is crushed when Jack says he's going to invite her into the "circle of trust."

This sets up an adversarial relationship where confident Olivia and a very threatened Greg go head-to-head throughout the trailer.

"I thought this would be an opportunity to get to know me. To bond," Olivia tells Greg during a family weekend together.

"How do you bond with an emotional puppeteer?" Greg asks Olivia. "I won't be your little Pinocchio, Geppetto. Evil Geppetto. I'm a real boy!"

Focker-In-Law is Ariana's comedy movie debut. It hits theaters on Thanksgiving.

Filming 'Mother Mary,' Taylor Swift was an 'angel that was over our heads all the time,' says Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,' April 15, 2026 (Scott Kowalchyk ©2026 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.)

Anne Hathaway's new film Mother Mary casts the Oscar-winning actress as a huge pop star who's sort of a combination of Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. While the movie's director has said that Swift's Reputation Tour concert film inspired the movie's live sequences, Hathaway says it was another one of Swift's films that really influenced her character: the Miss Americana documentary.

On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Hathaway said she was inspired by "how vulnerable [Swift] let herself be in that, kinda showing that pop stars, who we’re so used to seeing in their power and so polished, y'know, what happens when they’re kinda in-between moments, when they're having a moment of metamorphosis, which can be so painful."

"I was already a fan, but after that, I just had so much empathy for her humanity and, of course, her talent."

Hathaway also revealed she and Swift "know each other," and noted she was convinced the singer was waving to her from the stage when she went to see the Eras Tour.

"And then somebody tapped me on the shoulder and they said, 'Taylor wants you to have this,'" she continued. "And I opened it. It was a note where Taylor said, 'I'm so happy you're here, I'm gonna be enthusiastically waving at you.'”

"I was like, 'Oh my God! She's so magical!'" Hathaway laughed. "She did! She did the thing! And I was right! I am special!'"
